Verkhovna Rada chairman urges Spain to facilitate Ukraine's accession to NATO

During a meeting with Meritxell Batet Lamaña, President of the Congress of Deputies of Spain, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk called on Spain to facilitate the achievement of a consensus on supporting Ukraine's bid to join NATO.

"I expect that Spain will support the EU's decision to start pre-accession negotiations this year and provide all possible support to this issue, in particular, during its presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of this year," Stefanchuk posted on Facebook.

The Verkhovna Rada Chairman also noted that progress in Ukraine's implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission was presented at the 24th Ukraine-EU Summit.

Stefanchuk paid special attention to the issue of the Euro-Atlantic future of Ukraine.

He thanked Spain for its firm and consistent support provided from the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.

As reported, earlier the Verkhovna Rada called on NATO Member States to speed up Ukraine's accession to the Alliance.
