A NATO-Ukraine Council meeting held today in Brussels at the level of defense ministers was very positive and provided an opportunity for a detailed discussion on how NATO allies can continue to support Ukraine militarily.
The Swedish government has instructed the country's armed forces to allocate SEK 550 million (approximately $30 million) in support of Ukraine through NATO.
Norway will allocate USD 7 billion in aid to Ukraine in 2025.
The United States is reportedly refusing to provide air defense assets to protect a peacekeeping force that the UK and France intend to deploy in Ukraine after the war ends.
Ukraine has made targeted investments in drone production, therefore it is capable of producing up to 10 million drones per year, and is no longer dependent on external suppliers, including China, which recently redirected supplies of its drones from Ukraine to Russia.
Relations between Kyiv and Warsaw under the newly elected President Karol Nawrocki of Poland will not change, as a political consensus remains there on what relations with Ukraine should be. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov discussed strengthening the work of the Drone Coalition with Latvian Defense Minister Andris Spruds during a meeting of the Contact Group on Defense Issues of Ukraine in the Ramstein format.
Germany has already transferred a quarter of its available Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine and cannot provide more from its own stock. However, Berlin is actively seeking to acquire such systems from partners for subsequent delivery to Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has confirmed that Ukraine has been invited to participate in the upcoming NATO summit in The Hague. However, he refrained from commenting on the format of Ukraine's participation, noting that the detailed agenda is still being finalized.
The long-term commitment to Ukraine's irreversible path to NATO membership, which the Allies reaffirmed last year during the Washington Summit, remains valid, and the Alliance is already building a bridge to achieve this goal.
