U.S. must be ready to confront Russia, Congressman Wilson warns

The United States and NATO Allies must be prepared to confront Russia, as well as other aggressor states who openly threaten the peaceful democracies of the free world.

This view was expressed on Wednesday in Washington by Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, Co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, a Ukrinform correspondent reports.

When asked whether the U.S. and other NATO countries should be ready to confront Russia, which is a nuclear state, Wilson said: “Absolutely.”

He noted that aggressor states always broadcast what they intend to do before moving against peaceful democracies. For example, Iranian leader Khomeini and the HAMAS government have made it clear that they want to kill all Jews, China seeks to undermine Taiwan’s sovereignty, and Putin has written a treatise claiming that Ukraine does not exist.

Wilson emphasized that enemies of the free world broadcast their intentions, so “we need to be prepared, and we will, for peace through strength.”

In this context, he noted that President Trump had repeatedly spoke of achieving peace through strength. To support this, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on the National Defense Authorization Act with nearly a trillion dollars for national defense.

Wilson continued, pointing out that NATO Allies have committed to increasing their defense contributions to 5% of GDP. Consequently, the Western alliance, together with Japan and South Korea, is significantly boosting its defense capabilities to stand up to the dictators worldwide.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, earlier on Wednesday Congressman Wilson condemned the Russian drone attack on Polish territory, stating that the war criminal Putin is no longer satisfied with strikes on women and babies in Ukraine and is now testing NATO through attacks on one of its member states.
