Russian occupation forces, after escaping from the Chaplynka airfield in the Kherson region, have begun to build a new airbase at the abandoned airfield in Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia region.

According to Ukrinform, Ukraine's Center for Strategic Communications (StratCom) said this in a post on Telegram.

"After the liberation of Kherson, the Russian army also left the Chaplynka airfield, which was an important military stronghold and the largest air base on the left bank of the Kherson region. However, in late November, the Russians started the construction of a new airbase at the abandoned airfield in Berdiansk," the report said.

According to the report, recent Planet satellite imagery show that helicopters are stationed at the airport, trenches are being dug, camouflage tarps are being installed, and heavy equipment is building shelters for vehicles.

According to StratCom, Berdiansk is located at a distance of more than 85 kilometers from the front line (outside the range of Ukrainian HIMARS systems), which gives the Russians the opportunity to build a new airfield in Berdiansk, from which attacks on Ukraine can be carried out almost without any consequences.
