Japan extends project for Ukraine’s emergency recovery until late Mar 2027
The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Communities and Territories Development Ministry, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
The meeting focused on the priority areas of further cooperation between Ukraine and Japan as part of the Project for Emergency Recovery and Reconstruction.
The Japanese side announced a decision to extend the Project’s duration until late March 2027. This will help to expand the volume of assistance, improve long-term planning, and ensure a sustainable implementation of priority initiatives.

In particular, JICA and the Ukrainian side will cooperate on providing internally displaced persons with housing , namely through the establishment of the municipal social housing fund, major repairs in apartment blocks, and purchasing modular housing.
The priority matters include equipping social facilities with ramps, lifts and elevators as part of the Movement Without Barriers project; continuing the supply of rails, bridge structures, road inspection and maintenance equipment.

Among other things, the Japanese side expanded the programme to support demolition waste processing in the Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

The parties also discussed scaling up a pilot project on the installation of heat pumps, and the supply of modular boilers and cogeneration equipment to communities.

A reminder that earlier Ukraine and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed an agreement required to receive USD 3 billion under the Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) loans initiative.
