CoE secretary general responds to deadly Kyiv shooting, urges end to violence

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, has reacted to the April 18 terrorist attack in Kyiv, which left six people dead.

According to Ukrinform, Berset stated this on social media platform X.

Responding to the shooting, he said that in Ukraine one tragic day replaces another, but stressed that Ukrainians deserve an end to violence.

"My thoughts are with the victims of yesterday's shooting in a residential area, and with all those affected by this ongoing violence. The Ukrainian people deserve the violence to stop," he wrote.

On April 18, a Russian national opened fire on civilians in Kyiv's Holosiivskyi district. He later took hostages in a store and fired at police during the standoff. Negotiators attempted to engage with the attacker before he was ultimately neutralized.

Six people were killed and 14 others were injured in the shooting.
