Ukraine sees Turkey as a key strategic partner capable of helping balance Russia's naval dominance in the Black Sea, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

In an interview with Ukrinform following the 5th Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Sybiha stressed Turkey's special role in Ukraine's foreign policy.

"Turkey undoubtedly holds a special place in our diplomatic relations – as a strategic partner and as a neighbor across the sea. We share common challenges in the Black Sea. I believe that only together with Turkey can Ukraine balance the dominance of the Russian naval fleet," he said.

The minister stressed that Turkey is a NATO member with one of the world's strongest militaries.

"At the same time, Ukraine now also has one of the strongest armies not only in Europe. All this creates the foundation for truly close cooperation," Sybiha said.

He added that Ukraine and Turkey are not competitors but complementary partners, including in the defense sector.

"In some areas we have leading positions, in others we need support and cooperation with the Turkish side. But this is always about a mutually beneficial partnership, based not only on a dynamic present but also on huge future prospects. I support the creation of alliances with Turkey, given its role in the region and our country's growing role," he said.

According to Sybiha, a successful example of cooperation is the launch of new formats of engagement, such as a trilateral Ukraine-Turkey-Syria platform.

Following the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, Sybiha said Ukraine is strengthening its role on the global stage, attracting increased interest from other countries and becoming an appealing partner, even generating competition for engagement and cooperation.
