Estonia’s FM: Russia not interested in peace, stronger pressure needed
This was reported on the website of Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs following talks between Tsahkna and his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha, as quoted by Ukrinform.
“Yesterday’s meeting in Florida showed that both Ukraine and the United States want to achieve peace and are working toward it. The only party that remains uninterested in peace is Russia, which has shown no willingness whatsoever to abandon the objectives that led it to launch its aggression – the destruction of Ukraine’s sovereignty and the reshaping of Europe’s security architecture. Just over the past weekend, we saw Russia devastate residential areas of Ukrainian cities and the country’s energy infrastructure through air strikes,” Foreign Minister Tsahkna said.
He recalled that over the past weekend Russia attacked residential areas and Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, and stressed that until Russia demonstrates genuine readiness for a just and lasting peace, all efforts should be focused on applying even stronger pressure on the aggressor in order to force it to finally take negotiations seriously.
Ukraine must be provided with military assistance so that it can resist the aggressor on the battlefield and protect its cities from Russian drone and missile attacks, the Estonian Foreign Minister said.
He also called for continued work on strong security guarantees for Ukraine.
“Estonia already announced in the spring its readiness to contribute, within a coalition of the willing, up to a company-sized unit, as well as training personnel and staff officers,” he noted.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, Volodymyr Zelensky said that talks with Donald Trump in Florida resulted in significant achievements.
