Shmyhal, Kallas discuss strengthening Ukraine-EU security cooperation

“The European Union has become a powerful partner for Ukraine in its war against Russia. We discussed joint projects in arms production, technology exchange, and Ukraine’s participation in EU collective initiatives, including the SAFE project,” the Ukrainian Defense Minister noted.

He emphasized the need for deeper integration of Ukraine into Europe’s collective defense system.

“Ukraine has proven to be an indispensable ally in defending Europe. Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, the EU and its member states have provided military and technical assistance, trained Ukrainian troops through the EUMAM Ukraine mission, and adopted 18 sanctions packages against the aggressor. We are sincerely grateful for this steadfast support,” he added.

Shmyhal also stressed the importance of tightening sanctions against Russia and said both sides had coordinated Ukraine’s key financial needs for the coming year.

“It’s important that Russian assets continue to work for Ukraine’s benefit. Our partnership forms the foundation of future security. Together, we can build a strong and united Europe capable of countering any threat,” Shmyhal concluded.

As Ukrinform reported, on October 13, Kaja Kallas arrived in Kyiv for meetings with Ukrainian officials.
