Court sentences man who set fire to military vehicles to seven years in prison in Sumy region
According to Ukrinform, the Sumy Regional Prosecutor's Office stated this on Telegram.
"Under the procedural guidance of the Shostka District Prosecutor's Office, a 20-year-old man was found guilty of obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine by setting fire to military vehicles. By the verdict of the Shostka City District Court on April 9, 2026, he was sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment," the statement said.
The prosecutor proved in court that the convicted man, while searching for a job in one of the messaging apps, agreed to an offer to carry out arson attacks on military vehicles in exchange for money. Following the instructions of the contractor, he searched in the city of Shostka for vehicles belonging to servicemen and, using a flammable mixture, set them on fire.
The prosecutor's office noted that in May–June 2025, he set fire to two vehicles, which were significantly damaged. During an attempt to set a third vehicle on fire, law enforcement officers detained him at the scene and prevented the fire.
As previously reported, in the Bukovyna region, three young men aged 18 to 21 who set fire to railway relay cabinets on orders from Russia were each sentenced to 15 years in prison.
