Kyiv to respond to politicized decisions on Ukrainian symbols in Poland – source

A diplomatic source shared this information with Ukrinform.

“We are analyzing the legal dimension of these decisions and their potential impact on the status of Ukrainian citizens in Poland. We are grateful to official Warsaw for its previous decisions in support of our compatriots and trust that their rights will continue to be upheld no less than in other EU countries,” the source emphasized.

At the same time, the source warned that any politicized moves to equate Ukrainian symbols with Nazi or communist ones could provoke growing negative sentiment within Ukrainian society and would require a response from the Ukrainian side.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, on August 25, Polish President Karol Nawrocki announced a legislative initiative to classify the “Bandera symbol” as equivalent to Nazi and communist symbols under Poland’s Criminal Code.

Nawrocki also stated that he did not sign an amendment to the law on assistance for Ukrainian citizens.
