Yermak, Dunnigan discuss threats posed by the Nord Stream 2

Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak discussed the energy security challenges posed by the Nord Stream 2 project with Robin Dunnigan, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State responsible for Central and Eastern Europe, during her first visit to Kyiv on October 8.

As the press service of the President’s Office informs, Yermak underscored the importance of Dunnigan's visit to Ukraine in the context of bilateral relations with the United States.

"The successful visit of the President of Ukraine to the United States testifies to new opportunities for building Ukraine–US relations. The ambitious Joint Statement adopted by the Presidents of Ukraine and the United States is a roadmap for the further development of our relations," said the Head of the Office of the President.

Yermak and Dunnigan discussed the preparations for the meeting of the renewed Strategic Partnership Commission, including the signing of the renewed Charter of Strategic Partnership between Ukraine and the United States.

During the meeting, the issue of further cooperation in the energy sector was raised and the two sides discussed the energy security challenges posed by the Nord Stream 2 project.

Yermak also stressed the importance of U.S. involvement in the negotiation process for a peaceful settlement in the East of Ukraine.

Dunnigan stressed the importance of reforms in Ukraine, including the need to strengthen anti-corruption institutions, and pledged continued U.S. support for these efforts.

The Head of the Office confirmed the full readiness of the Ukrainian side to develop a successfully established independent anti-corruption infrastructure.

Yermak thanked the United States for participating in the Crimea Platform Summit and joining its final Declaration, expressing hope for further active support by the United States of the work of the Platform.

He also thanked the American side for sending an official delegation to take part in commemorative events in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Babyn Yar tragedy.
