The autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is starting in Strasbourg on September 27, set to last until September 30, in a partly virtual mode.

Among the topics put forward for discussion at the debate is Russia's political persecution of the indigenous peoples of Crimea, Ukrinform reports with reference to Radio Svoboda.

Earlier, a member of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE, MP Rustem Umerov, said Ukraine had submitted a relevant motion to hold the said debate. The letter was sent to PACE President Rick Dimes.

The motion was filed in the wake of the latest series of raids and arrests targeting Crimean Tatars across the occupied peninsula.

Among those arrested is Crimean Tatar activist and politician Nariman Dzhelyalov, Deputy Head of Crimean Tatars’ Mejlis.

It should be recalled that on June 23, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution on the rights of Crimean Tatars in the Russian-occupied Crimea, which sends clear signals of the need to respect the rights of Crimean Tatars in the occupied Crimea.
