Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal hopes that Ukraine and the European Union will sign the Common Aviation Area Agreement at the 23rd Ukraine-EU Summit in October.

“We have been waiting for the ‘open skies’ agreement for so long that now they are just cautiously saying that it is ‘most likely’ to be signed. I thank Mr. Matti Maasikas [Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine] for his firm and confident position that we will sign the ‘open skies’ agreement at this year's summit. We expect a corresponding high representation from the EU, as well as from Slovenia which currently holds the presidency of the Council of the EU. Therefore, I believe that our summit will have an extremely positive outcome," Shmyhal said at a meeting of the commission for coordination of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement implementation, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The 23rd Ukraine-EU Summit will take place in Kyiv on October 12.

As reported, the Council of EU greenlighted signing of the Common Aviation Area Agreement with Ukraine, Armenia, and Tunisia on June 28.
