Ukraine, Hungary to hold meeting of commission on national minorities

“In pursuance of the agreement reached between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó, co-chairs of the Joint Ukrainian-Hungarian Commission on Ensuring the Rights of National Minorities – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasyl Bodnar and Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary for Neighborhood Policy Ferenc Kalmár – met in Kyiv,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine informs.

The parties discussed in detail the preparations for the next meeting of the Joint Commission. Bodnar expressed confidence that the dialogue between Ukraine and Hungary within the framework of the Commission's activities would contribute to the proper protection of the rights of the Ukrainian minority in Hungary and the Hungarian minority in Ukraine in accordance with the national legislation of the parties.

"This, in turn, will strengthen good-neighborly mutually beneficial relations between our countries," said the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine.

The diplomats agreed that the next meeting of the Joint Ukrainian-Hungarian Commission on Ensuring the Rights of National Minorities would take place in Kyiv in the near future. The exact date will be agreed upon through diplomatic channels.

Bodnar and Kalmár also praised the progress in implementing the results of the 3rd meeting of the Ukrainian-Hungarian interagency working group on education, which took place in Uzhgorod on September 16.
