Zhytomyr Armored Vehicle Factory (AVF), a state-owned company incorporated with the Ukroboronprom defense industries conglomerate, has completed refurbishment and upgrading on a batch of BMP-2 armored fighting vehicles (AFVs) and delivered the vehicles to the Ukrainian armed forces.

According to Defense Express, the vehicles have undergone major repairs and received advanced capabilities, including new sighting and targeting devices, IR LED headlights, and a GPS navigator.

Among other improvements are new tracks produced domestically in Ukraine, in particular by Zhytomyr AVF.

"This is not the first time we employ our own produced track assemblies. In the future, this would fully eliminate for our company the need to source out track assemblies from private or international markets," Oleksiy Zhukovets, CEO of Zhytomyr AVF, said.

For record, Zhytomyr AVF, itself a manufacturer of track assemblies, is also sourcing these components from the domestic market. The company has over a few past years sourced a total of 80 track assemblies it purchased, through competitions, from Malyshev Factory (70 assemblies) and privately-run NVP Aktiv Spets Prom (10 assemblies).

Zhytomyr AVF is also purchasing generous quantities of situational awareness devices. Thus, in February of this year, it contracted Trimen-Ukraine to supply 60 BPK-2-42MBT day/thermal imaging sights with their related accessories, meant to be installed in BMP-2 armored fighting vehicles.
