EU should join forces with Ukraine and others to create military bloc to deter Russia, says Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky believes Europe needs to maximize its strength amid US threats to withdraw from NATO.

According to Ukrinform, he made these remarks during Alastair Campbell’s podcast The Rest is Politics, as reported by The Guardian.

According to the President, the European Union must join forces with Ukraine, the United Kingdom, Turkey, and Norway to create a military bloc large enough to deter Russia.

“Without Ukraine and Turkey, Europe will not have a similar army that Russia has. With Ukraine, Turkey, Norway, and the UK, you will control security on the seas, not one sea,” Zelensky stated.

The Ukrainian leader also expressed confidence that Ukraine will one day join the EU.

During the podcast, he also described US Vice President J.D. Vance’s visit to Budapest on Tuesday and Wednesday—aimed at campaigning for Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán— as “not helpful.”

Also, Zelensky noted that he has no intention of interfering in Sunday’s elections, adding that it is up to the Hungarian people to decide which party to support.

As reported by Ukrinform, US Vice President J.D. Vance stated during a joint press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in Budapest that there are ‘elements’ within the Ukrainian security services attempting to interfere in elections in both the US and Hungary.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said that US Vice President J.D. Vance’s statements regarding Ukraine’s alleged interference in the US and Hungarian elections are part of campaign rhetoric; therefore, the Ukrainian side is taking them in stride and not overstating their significance.
