Zelensky believes negotiations between Ukraine, US, and Russia to resume
According to Ukrinform, he said this in an interview with the Italian national public broadcaster RAI.
Zelensky congratulated the US on reaching a ceasefire agreement in Iran, stating that this “will facilitate the resolution of this energy crisis.”
He emphasized, however, that “support for Ukraine, particularly through arms supplies, must continue.”
The president added that the United States is “more focused on the Middle East,” and that for this reason, “trilateral negotiations with Russia have been postponed.”
“But we will start them from the beginning…” he assured.
In addition, Zelensky stated that he is ready to meet with Vladimir Putin: “I am ready to meet with Putin. Of course, not in Moscow or Kyiv. But if he is ready to meet with me, there are many places where this can be done. We can find such a place in the Middle East, in Europe, in the United States, anywhere.”
He also noted that Putin will not stop if he gets Donbas and will try to capture other regional centers, in particular Kharkiv.
“We cannot simply discuss ceding Donbas. If we leave Donbas to the Russians, they will occupy our best-defended areas without suffering any losses. Building new fortifications could take a year or a year and a half. They will be able to attack Kharkiv and other cities that contribute significantly to our GDP. And there will be a split in society. And any split is Putin’s key goal, as well as the destruction of our independence,” Zelensky stated.
As reported by Ukrinform, the ISW notes that successful strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on Russian rear areas have intensified discussions within the Russian military community regarding the need for a swift end to hostilities against Ukraine.
Despite the escalation of the situation surrounding Iran, the US remains optimistic about the possibility of productive negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.
