Ukraine, Papua New Guinea establish diplomatic ties

During the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, Ukraine and Papua New Guinea officially established diplomatic relations.

According to Ukrinform, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced this on the social media platform X.

"I was pleased to sign the relevant Joint Communique with my counterpart Justin Tkatchenko. For us, this is not just a symbolic gesture, but an important step that opens new opportunities for cooperation," he wrote.

Sybiha thanked Papua New Guinea for its "clear and principled" support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"We are committed to expanding cooperation in critical areas including global food security, digital technologies, and humanitarian initiatives," he said.

He added that strengthening these ties will contribute to international solidarity, peace, and respect for international law.
