The prime targets of Russian disinformation operations in Canada are Ukrainian, Baltic, and Belarusian communities.

This was stated in an interview with Ukrinform by Canadian disinformation expert Marcus Kolga.

“Here (in Canada), Russian disinformation often targets Ukrainian, Baltic, and Belarusian communities,” Kolga said.

According to him, Ukrainian Canadians have been frequently targeted.

“Chrystia Freeland, because of her heritage, was smeared as a ‘Nazi sympathizer’,” the expert noted.

According to Kolga, Kremlin narratives in Canada are often “laundered” through internal voices, such as former diplomats on the Russian corporate boards, or academics who regularly write for RT.

“These figures give propaganda a veneer of legitimacy,” Kolga concluded.
