Moldova to help Ukraine tackle flood emergency

Moldova will provide Ukraine with aid in the amount of 4.2 million lei (over $236,000) to eliminate the environmental and humanitarian consequences of the Kakhovka HPP destruction.

That’s according to NewsMaker, Ukrinform reports.

"The batch of humanitarian aid includes water pumping stations, inflatable boats, food, and equipment needed to mitigate flooding effects," the report said.

The corresponding decision was taken by the National Emergency Situations Commission of Moldova.

The equipment will be provided from the reserves of the General Inspectorate of Emergency Situations and the Agency for Material Reserves.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on the night of June 6, Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka HPP dam. The plant cannot be restored, according to the operator. In Kherson region, rescue operations and evacuation of the population from flooded areas are ongoing.

Japan has announced it will provide $5 million to Ukraine through international organizations for urgent aid to victims of flooding caused by the Russian forces blowing up the Kakhovka HPP dam.

Also, immediate help is expected from Belgium to support those affected by the flood. The country engaged several federal ministries and departments to this end.
