Sviderskyi: MLE creates security “buffer” between front line and rear
Colonel Yevhen Sviderskyi, Deputy Chief of the General Directorate of Military Law Enforcement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated this in a comment to Ukrinform on the occasion of Military Law Enforcement Day.
According to him, in the context of a full-scale war, there is constant movement of people, equipment, and weapons between the front lines and the rear, which requires systematic control and the prevention of potential abuses.
“We have a large-scale front… And there is the rear, where life, so to speak, looks almost peaceful. Between them is constant, intense movement: people, equipment, weapons, explosive devices, and more,” he said.
Svidersky clarified that in this context, the Military Law Enforcement Service acts as a deterrent mechanism.
“That is why the Military Police creates a filter between the combat zone and the rest of the country. This is about safety for the army, civilians, and the state,” he emphasized.
Svidersky added that another important area of work is preventing alcohol and narcotics from reaching combat zones, as this affects discipline and safety within units.
“If alcohol or drugs get there [to the front], it directly undermines discipline and the execution of tasks,” he emphasized.
Svidersky warns that in some cases, this can have critical consequences.
“In the worst-case scenario, it’s a weapon in the hands of an intoxicated person,” the deputy stressed.
He noted that monitoring, preventing, and eliminating such risks is an integral part of the overall system for maintaining law and order in the military and security in the rear.
As reported by Ukrinform, among the most common offenses are unauthorized absence from duty and violations of weapons handling regulations. When committed systematically, they pose significant risks to the successful execution of combat missions by units.
