The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has adopted a law introducing amendments to some laws of Ukraine on the prohibition of the continuous logging of fir and beech forests on the mountain slopes of the Carpathian region.

A total of 301 MPs voted for a respective bill, No. 0873, at a parliament meeting on Wednesday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

The law improves measures for the protection of fir and beech forests on the mountain slopes of the Carpathian region from continuous felling, both for entrepreneurial and sanitary purposes.

The law introduces amendments to the laws on the nature reserve fund of Ukraine and on a moratorium on continuous felling on mountain slopes in fir and beech forests of the Carpathian region.

In April 2018, the Verkhovna Rada approved at first reading a draft law introducing amendments to some laws on the prohibition of the continuous logging of fir and beech forests on the mountain slopes of the Carpathian region.
