Zelensky: Russia has five scenarios for expanding war through northern Ukraine, responses are being prepared
The head of state announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
“I held a meeting of the High Command. We analyzed in detail the available intelligence data regarding Russia’s plans for offensive operations in the Chernihiv-Kyiv direction. We are preparing responses to every possible scenario of enemy action, should the Russians actually dare to expand their aggression. Our forces in that direction will be reinforced,” Zelensky said.
He noted that options for external action are currently being reviewed.
“I have instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to prepare additional diplomatic measures regarding Belarus, which Russia may use to expand the war in this way. Corresponding classified tasks have also been assigned to Ukrainian intelligence services,” the President noted.
He emphasized that Ukraine will certainly defend itself, and the current task is to strengthen the state so that “none of the five Russian scenarios for expanding the war through northern Ukraine will work.”
Separately, according to Zelensky, the meeting also addressed issues regarding a possible mobilization in Russia.
“We also took note of information regarding Russia’s preparations for new mobilization measures—an additional 100,000 people. We believe that as of today, Russia lacks the capacity for covert mobilization; therefore, we should expect Russian political decisions of a different nature, such as those recently made regarding the Transnistrian region of Moldova,” the head of state noted.
He also stated that Ukraine will continue preparations to expand the scope of long-range sanctions, “which have already proven themselves very effective.”
As reported by Ukrinform, joint military exercises with Russia on the combat use of nuclear weapons and nuclear support began in Belarus on May 18.
