Fierce house-to-house fighting ongoing in Huliaipole – military spox
Spokesperson for the Defense Forces of the South Vladyslav Voloshyn reported this on TV, according to Ukrinform.
“Yesterday, we recorded a grim record of 65 clashes in this sector. By 18:00 today, nearly 40 engagements had already occurred, with more than a dozen still ongoing,” Voloshyn said in a live broadcast.
He described Huliaipole as a gray zone – while Russian forces have not been able to establish a foothold in the town, fighting is ongoing in every block and neighborhood, particularly in the northern outskirts, where over 20 clashes were recorded in the past 24 hours.
Russian troops are also attempting to bypass the town from the south, attacking the settlement of Zaliznychne southeast of Huliaipole. Intelligence reports indicate that the enemy has already redeployed two assault formations in efforts to capture the town, but both were almost completely destroyed.
“According to intelligence, over the past month, we have destroyed more than 10,000 Russian invaders on the southern axis, with roughly 70% of those losses occurring near Huliaipole. Fighting here is intense, and the situation is extremely challenging,” Voloshyn added.
He noted that Russian forces are replenishing units that have suffered losses and reinforcing assault groups with artillery and additional ammunition.
Commenting on the Oleksandrivka sector, Voloshyn said more than 20 clashes were recorded there yesterday, with roughly 15 so far today. Fighting continues along the entire frontline in this sector, including in settlements such as Ivanivka, Sosnivka, and Verbove, where Russian forces are attempting to advance.
As reported by Ukrinform, on January 4, Ukrainian forces engaged in 229 clashes with Russian troops, with the heaviest fighting taking place in the Huliaipole and Pokrovsk sectors.
