War update: 80 clashes on front lines, fighting continues in four sectors

According to Ukrinform, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine described the situation as of 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 5, in a Facebook post.

Border settlements, including Ryzhivka, Budky, Bezsalivka, Stara Huta in the Sumy region, and Khrinivka in the Chernihiv region, were subjected to artillery shelling from the territory of the Russian Federation.

In the Northern Slobozhanshchyna and Kursk sectors, the Russians carried out 31 shellings, including two with multiple launch rocket systems.

In the Southern Slobozhanshchyna sector, Ukrainian soldiers stopped one enemy attack in the Vovchansk area.

In the Kupiansk sector, since the beginning of the day, the enemy has twice attempted to advance towards Kurylivka and Kupiansk.

In the Lyman sector, the Russian army launched eight attacks near Nadiia, Zarichne, and toward the settlements of Drobysheve, Stavky, and Lyman. One battle is currently ongoing.

In the Sloviansk sector, the Defense Forces repelled two attacks by the invaders near Zakitne, and one battle is still ongoing.

In the Kramatorsk sector, the enemy did not carry out any offensive actions, the General Staff emphasized.

In the Kostiantynivka sector, the Defense Forces repelled 12 Russian offensive actions in the areas of the settlements of Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, and toward Kostiantynivka, Berestok, and Sofiivka. One combat engagement is ongoing.

In the Pokrovsk sector, the Russians made 27 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of the settlements of Chervonyi Lyman, Sukhetske, Zatyshok, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia, and toward the settlements of Hryshyne and Ivanivka. The Defense Forces are holding back the enemy's advance and have already stopped 20 attacks.

In the Oleksandrivka sector, the enemy launched five attacks in the areas surrounding the settlements of Vyshneve and Zlahoda.

In the Huliaipole sector, the Defense Forces repelled 16 Russian attacks in the areas of Uspenivka, Huliaipole, and towards Dobropillia, Varvarivka, Zelene, and Pryluky. Five more clashes are ongoing. Zaliznychne and Rizdvianka were subjected to air strikes with glide bombs.

No enemy offensive actions were recorded in the Orikhiv sector, the General Staff emphasized.

In the Pryniprovske sector, the Russians launched an attack in the area of the Antonivskyi Bridge.

The situation on other front sectors has not changed significantly, the General Staff noted.

As reported by Ukrinform, the total combat losses of Russian troops from February 24, 2022, to January 5, 2026, in the war against Ukraine amount to approximately 1,212,520 people, including 990 soldiers over the past day.
