Japan allocates more than $14M to PURL initiative

According to Ukrinform, the press service of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated this on its website.

It is noted that this contribution is intended for a PURL package covering exclusively non-lethal equipment. Details regarding the non-lethal equipment to be provided will be coordinated with NATO.

The non-lethal equipment is expected to correspond to the support provided through NATO's CAP Trust Fund (Comprehensive Assistance Package for Ukraine), to which Japan has contributed previously.

"Japan will continue to support to Ukraine in order to achieve a just and lasting peace and intends to further strengthen Japan-NATO cooperation," the statement says.

PURL is a mechanism under which NATO member states and partner countries contribute funds for the purchase of U.S.-made equipment through NATO and its transfer to Ukraine.

As Ukrinform previously reported, in February the Japanese government decided to join NATO's initiative to supply Ukraine with U.S.-made ammunition and equipment, under which it would procure non-lethal equipment for Ukraine's Defense Forces.
