Ukraine to be ready for EU membership by 2027 – Zelensky
He said this during a joint press conference with the Presidents of Lithuania and Poland in Vilnius, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“The second layer of security guarantees for Ukraine is European security guarantees, the Coalition of the Willing, and most importantly – membership in the European Union. These are economic security guarantees for Ukraine. We are aiming for 2027, specifying the exact date when Ukraine will be ready [for EU accession]. Technically, Ukraine will be ready in the first half of 2026 in terms of opening all clusters. Fully technically, we will be ready in 2027, in our view. We want a specific date in our treaty on ending the war so that all parties adhere to these agreements, including the aggressor, who will sign a twenty-point plan if the moment comes, so that no one can block us afterward,” the Ukrainian President said.
Zelensky noted that the primary security guarantees for Ukraine are bilateral agreements with the United States. According to him, the relevant document is already 100% ready.
“We are waiting for our partners’ readiness – the date and location for signing. After that, the document will go for ratification in the U.S. Congress and in the Ukrainian parliament, according to our agreements,” the President added.
Earlier, Ukrinform reported that President Zelensky and the First Lady Olena Zelenska arrived in the Lithuanian capital for events marking the 163rd anniversary of the January Uprising in Vilnius.
