CEC: Parliament agrees that organizing presidential elections will take six months

Deputy Chairman of Ukraine's Central Election Commission Serhii Dubovyk stated this on Ukrainian television, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"For organizing presidential elections, the law currently sets clearly defined timeframes of just over 90 days. However, according to the agreements reached between factions of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and discussed by consensus during the Monnet Dialogue, it was determined that six months are needed for proper preparation of post-war elections," Dubovyk said.

At the same time, he stressed that if parliament adopts different decisions, the Central Election Commission will ensure compliance with the legislation.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier stated that if ratification of a peace agreement between Ukraine, the United States, Russia and Europe – should it be signed – requires a nationwide referendum, the presidential election could be held simultaneously.

He noted that Clause 18 of the draft document on ending the war provides for holding elections in Ukraine as soon as possible after signing a peace agreement.
