Estonia to spend more than €10 billion on strengthening defense by 2029
This was stated by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna in an interview with Ukrinform.
"Estonia’s national defense and deterrence posture is based on two pillars: independent defense capability, i.e., our own capabilities, and NATO collective defense. To strengthen our own capabilities, Estonia will spend over EUR 10 billion on defense between 2026-2029," the diplomat emphasized
He explained that the future model for the Estonian Armed Forces involves increased situational awareness, modernization of weapons, an increase in ammunition, combat readiness, and more advanced training programs.
"All branches of the armed forces are undergoing significant upgrades to increase firing range, allowing engagement with the enemy from greater distances. Additionally, intelligence-gathering capabilities will be substantially improved to provide better overall awareness," the Estonian Foreign Minister informed.
As reported by Ukrinform, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur said that NATO's new military capability targets, presented in July, mean that defense spending could rise to 4.5-5% of gross domestic product.
