Sybiha: Jeddah talks were almost historic
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said this at a press briefing outside the building of the Polish Foreign Ministry, according to Ukrinform.
Sybiha described the negotiations in Jeddah as "very important, almost historic" and recalled that Ukraine had supported the U.S. proposal for a 30-day interim ceasefire.
He stated that Ukraine is now awaiting Russia's response and is ready to establish a working group to develop a roadmap toward the ceasefire if an agreement is reached.
The minister said that Ukraine is the country most interested in ending the war and securing a strong and lasting peace. He reiterated Ukraine's stance on achieving a just and comprehensive peace that ensures European security, stressing the importance of defending this position with the support of international partners. He rejected any solutions that merely pause the conflict, ruling out agreements similar to Minsk-3 or Yalta-2.
Sybiha also highlighted a key outcome of the Jeddah meeting -- the resumption of arms deliveries to Ukraine via the Rzeszow-Jasionka hub.
Expressing gratitude to Poland and its people, he acknowledged Warsaw's continued support for Kyiv. He also noted Poland's financial contribution of approximately $200 million to cover the costs of Starlink terminals, which he described as crucial for the Ukrainian military.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, in turn, expressed Poland's satisfaction with the new proposals and initiatives aimed at ending Russia's aggression in Ukraine. He confirmed that weapons deliveries to Ukraine had returned to previous levels and that Starlink terminals remained operational.
On March 11, negotiations between Ukrainian and U.S. delegations took place in Saudi Arabia. The Ukrainian delegation supported the U.S. proposal for a 30-day ceasefire along the entire frontline, with the possibility of extension based on mutual agreement and conditional on Russia's acceptance and implementation of the terms.
Following the peace talks in Saudi Arabia, Sybiha and Sikorski held a meeting in Warsaw.
