Sybiha: 30-day ceasefire is not a frozen conflict

He made this statement in a Facebook post following the negotiations in Jeddah, Ukrinform reports.

Commenting on the joint U.S.-Ukraine statement regarding an interim ceasefire -- limited to 30 days and contingent on mutual agreement from Russia -- Sybiha stressed that this must pave the way toward ending the war.

"Why is this interim ceasefire important? Because this is by no means about freezing the conflict. It is merely an attempt to begin the path toward ending the war in a just manner. It is also a step that demonstrates who is truly interested in peace," Sybiha wrote.

He added that the ceasefire "will only take effect if Russia accepts and implements it simultaneously."

According to Sybiha, the U.S. will now engage with Russia to determine its willingness or unwillingness to end the war.

"Ukraine is ready to move forward toward a just end to the war. Ukraine is not an obstacle to peace -- it is a partner in restoring it," he said.

Ukrainian and U.S. delegations met in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on March 11. The negotiations lasted over eight hours.

Following the meeting, Ukraine's Presidential Office issued a joint statement, according to which Ukraine accepted the U.S. proposal for an immediate 30-day ceasefire.

In turn, the United States agreed to lift the pause on intelligence sharing with Ukraine and resume military aid deliveries.
