First results of Hungary’s parliamentary election released, Tisza party leads Orbán’s party

The National Election Office has released the first results of Hungary’s parliamentary election.

This is according to Ukrinform, citing Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

After 14.72% of the votes were counted, the opposition Tisza party is ahead of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s ruling Fidesz party.

Results from single-member constituencies will be counted first, followed by party-list votes. Postal voting results will be announced last.

As previously reported, observers noted no significant violations in the parliamentary elections as of 12:00.

Under Hungary’s electoral system, the majority of lawmakers – 106 out of 199 – are elected in single-member constituencies by simple majority. The remaining 93 seats are allocated among parties that pass the 5% threshold.

As Ukrinform reported, voter turnout reached 77.8% as of 18:30, or 5,856,515 voters.
