Trump may restore aid to Ukraine if peace talks arranged – Waltz
This was stated by U.S. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz in an interview with the Fox & Friends program on Fox News, as reported by Ukrinform with reference to Reuters.
According to Waltz, the letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Trump, expressing readiness to engage in negotiations, was "a good, positive first step."
He mentioned that officials are discussing the date, location, and negotiating team that would lead to the cessation of the war.
"We are already talking about confidence-building measures that we'll then take to the Russians and test that side," Waltz said.
However, the U.S. National Security Adviser did not specify what confidence-building measures were being considered.
"I think if we can nail down these negotiations and move towards these negotiations, and in fact, put some confidence-building measures on the table, then the President will take a hard look at lifting this pause," Waltz stated.
He added that Washington needs to be sure that "both sides are sincerely negotiating towards a partial, then a permanent, peace."
As reported by Ukrinform, Trump, during his address to Congress, mentioned that he had received an "important letter" from Volodymyr Zelensky about the intention to sign a minerals agreement, as well as the readiness to engage in negotiations to bring about lasting peace.
