Trump’s potential meeting with Zelensky ahead of Putin "good signal"

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called the potential meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump before the White House leader meets with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin "a good signal."

This was stated by the Head of the Ukrainian state during a briefing, as reported by a Ukrinform correspondent.

"I have questions and need very honest answers because we are at war, and we need to understand what we can count on. That’s why this visit before Putin’s is a very good signal, I think. I don’t know how (this visit) will unfold because I’m still in the capital (of Ukraine), so we’ll see," Zelensky said.

He emphasized that during negotiations in Washington, he would like to "coordinate Ukraine's and the U.S.' positions" before the U.S. president talks to Putin.

"So, my question will be very direct — will the United States continue to support us or not? If they don’t help, can we buy weapons directly from the U.S.? Can we use (Russian) frozen assets to buy weapons, for example, and also for investments in many things, such as, say, mineral extraction? And (I will talk about) the reconstruction of Ukraine," Zelensky said, adding that the continuation of sanctions against the aggressor country would also be discussed.

He stressed that decisions about Ukraine without Ukraine are unacceptable.

The President also highlighted the importance of Europe's position in upcoming negotiations. "We have had many consultations, and I think I know what European partners are ready for, how they can help, and what the strategic role of the European Union is for Ukraine in future security guarantees," Zelensky noted.
