The United States will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes the Ukrainian side to win in the war unleashed by Russia, and only Ukraine has the right to decide its future.

The relevant statement was made by the US Department of State in a commentary to Ukrinform.

“We firmly believe that only Ukraine has the right to decide its future,” the US Department of State Spokesperson said in response to Ukrinform’s information inquiry about Washington’s official stance on the statement made by former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The US Department of State emphasized: “We don’t know when this war will be over, but we know this: Ukraine will emerge victorious. And the United States will stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes”.

A reminder that Mr. Kissinger suggested Ukraine should cede territory to Russia to help end the invasion. He pushed the West to force Ukraine into accepting negotiations with a “status quo ante”, which means the previous state of affairs. He also urged European leaders not to lose sight of Russia’s place in Europe.
