He said this in his speech at a conference titled "The role of the Supreme Court in ensuring human rights and freedoms," an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"The Supreme Court should serve as an example for other courts - both newly created appellate and district courts that will be set up, as well as the High Anti-Corruption Court and the High Court on Intellectual Property, the competitions to which are currently being conducted by the High Qualification Commission of Judges," Poroshenko said, adding that he expects "concrete practical results" from the High Qualification Commission of Judges in the near future.
The president also said that steps that were taken two years ago to adopt constitutional amendments on judicial reform and strengthen the independence of the judicial branch are already "giving first results."
Poroshenko said that proper funding of the judicial system is essential for judicial independence and added that this is a priority for the authorities.
"Today these budget articles remain protected. In the conditions of war, in the conditions of priority of state defense, increasing the level of protection of people, the judiciary remains a priority," Poroshenko said.
The new Supreme Court of Ukraine, established as part of judicial reform in place of the Supreme Court and three higher courts, began its work on December 15, 2017. Valentyna Danishevska was elected head of the new Supreme Court by secret ballot.
