Grynchuk, Grossi discuss nuclear safety at IAEA General Conference

On the sidelines of the 69th International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna, Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk has held a meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi.

The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Energy Ministry, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

The key topics of discussion were the IAEA’s support for Ukraine’s nuclear energy sector and energy resilience, the current situation at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), and restoring the integrity of the New Safe Confinement over Chornobyl NPP.

Among other things, Grynchuk and Grossi spoke about plans for the development of nuclear generation and the implementation of modern technologies. In particular, the parties noted an important role of joint efforts within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation, which was signed with the IAEA on the sidelines of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025) in Rome.

The ministry also reported on a number of meetings with international partners during the IAEA General Conference. Minister Grynchuk met with the heads of delegations from Belgium, Germany, Canada, Sweden and Austria to discuss Ukraine’s preparations for the upcoming winter period and the situation at Zaporizhzhia NPP.

“We outlined further possible vectors of cooperation. I am grateful to the partners for their expressed willingness to continue supporting Ukraine,” Grynchuk noted.

A reminder that, in her speech at the 69th IAEA General Conference in Vienna, Ukrainian Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk called for providing IAEA experts with full access to all areas of Zaporizhzhia NPP and creating an international mechanism of control over the temporarily occupied facility.
