An assessment mission of the European Union has started to work in Ukraine.

“A meeting between presidential adviser Mykhailo Fedorov and the European Union assessment mission with the participation of the European Commission’s DG CNECT representatives was held at the Presidential Office. The mission aims to evaluate the readiness of Ukraine’s telecommunications field for the integration into the EU Digital Single Market,” the press service of the Head of State reports.

As Fedorov noted at the meeting, the President’s team clearly understands that further acceleration of economic and social development is possible only under the condition of digital transformations. “We want and are ready to quickly fulfill all the conditions to become a part of the EU initiative to create a digital single market. These are super-powerful digital and economic prospects for Ukraine,” he stressed.

The DSM strategy is currently being successfully implemented in Europe. According to European experts, the digital single market could bring additional EUR 415 billion annually to united Europe and create hundreds of thousands of jobs.

The strategy is based on the European values of fair and open competition, an open and secure Internet providing a free flow of information.

Particular attention was paid to the issues of data protection, privacy and cybersecurity, including Internet governance.

"The bill on electronic communications has been included in the list for priority consideration and adoption. The lawmakers from the future parliamentary committee on digital transformations already work on it actively," the adviser to the President of Ukraine added.

Today, DSM is seen as the main asset of Europe, aimed at adapting the European society and the business environment to the new conditions for conducting business in the international arena. Europeans are striving to ensure the effective development of various sectors of the economy that use digital technology for innovation so that they remain competitive globally.

The representatives of the EU mission drew attention to the need for ensuring the telecommunications regulator’s independence and capabilities.
