Russians trying to break through to Kurakhove, town remains under Ukrainian control
This was reported on TV broadcast by Nazar Voloshyn, Spokesperson for the Khortytsia Operational Strategic Group of Troops, as cited by Ukrinform.
He reminded that the activities of three Russian groups of troops – Center, South, and East – are concentrated in the Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, and Vremivka sectors. Their goal remains to reach the administrative borders and establish full control over Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The Ukrainian Defense Forces are responding appropriately to all challenges and threats and "are giving an adequate response to the enemy," the spokesperson emphasized.
Voloshyn noted that the enemy continues to exert pressure on Ukraine’s Defense Forces in the Kurakhove sector.
"Over the past day, our defenders repelled 45 enemy assaults on that front. There is, of course, a concentration of enemy personnel reserves. Russian forces there include the 90th Tank Division, the 20th Motorized Rifle Division, the 5th and 110th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigades. The enemy's armament and combat tactics are standard, with assaults supported by armored vehicles and alternating use of small assault groups with mobile transport," the spokesperson informed.
According to him, due to worsening weather conditions, the occupiers are using less armored vehicles during their assaults.
Voloshyn also reported that the enemy is attempting to break through to Kurakhove and seize control of the dominating heights and access routes leading to the town.
"The enemy forces are shelling the town using both aviation and artillery. However, the Defense Forces are holding back the enemy's offensive actions, inflicting losses on personnel and equipment. Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are in control of Kurakhove, and any enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups that manage to break through are promptly neutralized," the spokesperson stated.
He added that battles continue on the Pokrovsk front to reclaim lost Ukrainian positions.
"The enemy attacked our fortifications on the Pokrovsk front, west of Vydrodzhennia and south of Novotroitske. As a result of prolonged clashes, two of our positions were lost, and one was destroyed. Efforts are currently underway to restore these positions. Fighting also continues on the southwestern outskirts of the village of Shevchenkove. The enemy is trying to consolidate and infiltrate with its sabotage and reconnaissance groups. However, the Defense Forces are holding back the enemy's offensive actions, inflicting losses on personnel and equipment," Voloshyn noted.
As reported by Ukrinform, about 150,000 enemy troops are involved in offensive actions in three tactical directions – Pokrovsk, Kurakhove, and Vremivka.
