Japan transfers nearly EUR 48M to Ukraine Recovery Program
The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development reported this following a meeting with Masahiro Takehana, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, according to Ukrinform.
The key announcement at the meeting was the transfer of previously pledged grant funds amounting to JPY 8.8 billion (about EUR 47.7 million) under Phase 4 of the Emergency Recovery Program.
“We highly value Japan’s unwavering support. The allocation of JPY 8.8 billion is a tangible contribution to the safety and basic living conditions of Ukrainians. Directing these funds toward demining, energy, and water supply will strengthen community resilience,” emphasized Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development.
The Japanese side also confirmed that Japan’s parliament has approved an additional budget, enabling the continuation of grant projects under Phase 5 of the Emergency Recovery Program and providing technical support for projects in Ukraine.
The parties discussed the implementation of joint initiatives, the activities of the JUPITeR platform, and the current status of grant assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The meeting also addressed preparations for the Second JUPITeR Mission and the selection of companies scheduled to visit Ukraine in March next year.
Discussions further covered Ukraine’s needs in transport logistics, energy efficiency, and the protection of critical infrastructure within the framework of the Emergency Recovery Program.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Japan will provide Ukraine with an additional USD 6 billion in financial assistance in 2026.
