Ukraine issues in absentia suspicion notice to deputy head of Republic of Karelia
According to the SSU's Office in Odesa Region, the agency has collected evidence against Sergeyev, who serves as First Deputy Head of the Republic of Karelia and Prime Minister of the regional government. Investigators allege that he has been involved in financing Russia's war against Ukraine.
The investigation found that until May 2026, Sergeyev served as Minister for Municipal Development and Internal Policy of Kaliningrad Oblast. After joining the government of Karelia, he allegedly continued actively supporting Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine.
According to the SSU, Sergeyev coordinated the collection, procurement, and delivery of supplies for Russian military units and facilitated the recruitment of citizens for military service on the side of the aggressor state.
The agency also stated that Sergeyev cooperated with Russian foundations and developers of drones and electronic warfare systems intended for use by occupation forces.
Evidence gathered by investigators indicates that he organized the transfer of FPV drones, reconnaissance UAVs, drone-detection systems, anti-drone complexes, UAV components, communications equipment, and other specialized military hardware to Russian forces fighting in the temporarily occupied parts of the Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions.
Based on the collected evidence, SSU investigators notified Sergeyev of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 110-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which concerns financing actions aimed at violently changing or overthrowing the constitutional order, seizing state power, or altering Ukraine's territorial boundaries or state border, when committed by a group acting in prior conspiracy.
Measures are ongoing to bring the suspect to justice.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, the SSU also issued an in absentia notice of suspicion against Andrey Klychkov, the governor of Oryol region, who is accused of providing logistical and financial support to Russian occupation forces.
