As reported by Ukrinform, this was announced by Suspilne Kultura.
On January 27, BAFTA revealed its shortlist of nominees.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 22 in London.
The ceremony will be hosted by actor, writer, and producer Alan Cumming.
Alongside Chernov’s film, the BAFTA documentary shortlist includes:
- Apocalypse in the Tropics – Petra Costa;
- Cover-Up – Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus;
- Mr Nobody Against Putin – Pavel Talankin and David Borenstein;
- The Perfect Neighbour – Geeta Gandbhir.
This is not Chernov’s first BAFTA recognition. In 2024, his film 20 Days in Mariupol won the BAFTA award in the Documentary category.
In 2025, the BAFTA for Best British Short Film went to Rock, Paper, Scissors, starring actor Oleksandr Rudynskyi. In his acceptance speech, he dedicated the award to his friend, actor Yevhen Svitlychnyi, who was killed in action in 2023.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, the film Armed Only with a Camera: The Life and Death of Brent Renaud, about the American journalist who was killed in March 2022 while covering Russia’s war against Ukraine, has received a nomination for the Academy Awards 2026.
