State Emergency Service prepares 41 mobile kitchens in Kyiv – PM Svyrydenko
Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko reported this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.
“Due to the lack of heating in buildings without gas supply, people are unable to cook hot food. To support residents in such areas of Kyiv, the SES, on government instructions, has prepared 41 kitchens for operation. Four of them are already operating and providing meals for SES personnel. These include dozens of specialists deployed from various regions of Ukraine to the capital to deal with the consequences of the emergency situation in the energy sector,” Svyrydenko said.
As many as 37 more kitchens are ready for use and can be rapidly deployed across the city.
“Overall, 56 hot meal distribution points are operating in Kyiv. Meals are prepared by representatives of World Central Kitchen and the Red Cross, with whom the SES has signed cooperation memorandums. Over the course of a week, people have received more than 26,000 portions of hot food,” Svyrydenko added.
If needed and at the request of city authorities, the SES, together with partner organizations, will deploy additional food distribution points near resilience hubs.
In the Kyiv region, in areas where the restoration of heating and electricity is complicated, a food truck is operating in Brovary, providing up to 16,000 meal portions per day, as well as a Ukrzaliznytsia train-kitchen in Irpin, which prepares and distributes 4,000 meals daily.
“I thank everyone who is helping communities during this period of disrupted energy supply following enemy shelling. It is important that people receive all necessary support even amid a difficult situation in the energy sector,” Svyrydenko emphasized.
As reported by Ukrinform, following a Russian strike on the night of January 24, more than 800,000 consumers in Kyiv were left without electricity, and disruptions to water supply occurred on the city’s left bank and in parts of the right bank.
