Final episode of “The Last War” to explore how Ukrainians created Russian Empire
Journalist, documentary filmmaker, and television host Myroslava Barchuk, the project’s creator, shared this in an interview with Ukrinform.
According to Barchuk, the script for the final episode is already written, and work with the director is in full swing. “This episode will tell the story of how Ukrainians, led by Feofan Prokopovych in the 18th century, traveled to Muscovy and helped establish the Russian Empire, believing it would be their empire,” she explained.
Barchuk argues that Ukraine’s intellectual contribution was the foundation upon which a powerful yet internally fragile system was built. However, she insists that it is Ukraine that must bring this historical cycle to an end. “This is something I’ll tell you exclusively — this story will show that we created this empire, and it is by us that it will collapse. I am certain of it,” she stated, emphasizing that this final episode will serve as a symbolic conclusion to The Last War.
The series, which has already garnered over two million viewers across various platforms, aims to spark new discussions about Ukraine’s role in historical processes that continue to shape contemporary political realities.
The documentary, produced by Suspilne, is available for free on YouTube.
As Ukrinform previously reported, Ukraine has also released its first documentary on combat stress, Vidnokray, directed by Serhii Nahornyi (Hora).
