Sweden detains dry cargo ship en route from Russia
According to Ukrinform, this was reported on the Swedish Coast Guard’s website.
“Monitoring the Baltic Sea, the Swedish Coast Guard's aircraft discovered yesterday that the Panama-flagged bulk carrier Hui Yuan was flushing coal residues into the sea. This is a violation of the Environmental Code,” the statement reads.
The Swedish Coast Guard crew inspected the vessel near Ystad, southern Sweden, on Sunday.
A preliminary investigation is currently underway, and the prosecutor has decided to hold a hearing. The suspicion is a violation of the Environmental Code.
It is noted that the bulk carrier Hui Yuan is registered in Panama. The vessel was en route from Russia to Las Palmas, Spain.
As reported by Ukrinform, on April 3, the Swedish Coast Guard detained a Russian tanker subject to sanctions, which is suspected of causing an oil spill in the Baltic Sea.
