Zelensky: Six countries confirm contributions to PURL
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this during a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Today, several countries have made decisions – six countries have confirmed that they will contribute to PURL. We are very grateful to them. We will not say which countries they are; this information is not public. We need to purchase what can be purchased from the United States. Today, all countries confirmed that PURL is a priority,” Zelensky said.
The President also stressed the importance of the Drone Deal initiative, noting that Ukraine is working with partners to make the format effective.
In addition, Zelensky emphasized that Europe should move more actively toward developing its own anti-ballistic defense capabilities.
“We are already working with several countries – France, Norway, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, and other partners – on creating European anti-ballistic capabilities. This is a very difficult project, but it is critically necessary,” he said.
The Ukrainian President added that discussions are ongoing with the U.S. administration regarding licenses for the production of Patriot air defense systems, which could potentially be manufactured in Ukraine or jointly with NATO partners.
“This is an entirely logical way to increase our collective strength. It is also consistent with the current policy of the President of the United States that Europe should do more for its own defense. We will remain focused on this,” Zelensky said.
As previously reported by Ukrinform, as of June 1, partner-country contributions to the PURL program were sufficient to continue deliveries of critical U.S.-made weapons to Ukraine, and assistance continues to arrive.
