Europe will avoid a repeat of the “Munich Betrayal” concerning Ukraine, as happened in 1938 with Czechoslovakia.

This opinion was expressed in an interview with Ukrinform by Miloš Vystrčil, President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.

“I think that in the case of Europe, there is no such danger. That historical experience is strong enough, and the determination of European countries not to allow such a scenario is great,” the politician believes.

He stated that this historical experience only reinforces the well-known fact: If you do not want to end up in a situation where someone takes your territory or kills your friends, you have no right to be indifferent, even if it does not directly concern you.

The second lesson is that democracy and freedom are quite fragile values and must be constantly nurtured, Vystrčil noted. If you don't, you can lose them very quickly. The Czechs know this from their own history, and this is one of the incentives to help and support Ukraine as much as possible, the politician added.

In the context of his country's historical experience, the Czech parliament President emphasized that if you do not resist the aggressor and think that you can negotiate with them, you must remember that the aggressor will never have enough. If you want peace for yourself, you cannot be indifferent to the fact that there is a war going on near your borders. And if you want someone to help you in the future, you must help them yourself, Vystrčil emphasized.

At the same time, he warned against “weariness” from the extremely exhausting war. In his opinion, the task of politicians is to “go into action and not give in to weariness, because it would be a shame if (partners) got tired”; the Ukrainian people may be tired, but partners have no right to be.

As reported, trilateral talks between Ukraine, the US, and Russia are currently taking place in Abu Dhabi. The Kremlin continues to demand the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donetsk region, citing agreements with the US in Anchorage.
