Kremlin spreading fake claims about Ukraine and UK preparing ‘sabotage operations’
Ukrinform reports this, citing the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD) under Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, which posted the statement on Telegram.
“Head of Russia’s FSB Alexander Bortnikov has claimed that Ukrainian and British intelligence services are allegedly preparing sabotage operations against the TurkStream gas pipeline and the Caspian Pipeline Consortium,” the statement says.
According to the CCD, such baseless accusations are typical of Russian intelligence agencies. In the past, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service has repeatedly alleged that Ukraine was preparing sabotage, provocations, or terrorist attacks in European countries or international waters — none of which ever materialized.
The Center noted that the real goal of such disinformation is to spread fear and panic across Europe and countries neighboring Russia, as well as to create an informational alibi for future Russian provocations. In fact, it is Russian intelligence services that are behind several acts of sabotage in EU countries.
As previously reported, Russian propaganda has intensified its disinformation campaign in the second half of October, pushing narratives about Ukraine’s alleged “unpreparedness for winter” and “inability to resist Russia.”
