Russian Shahed drones equipped with SIM cards whose roaming blocked in Ukraine – 'Flash'
According to Ukrinform, Serhii "Flash" Beskrestnov, an adviser to Ukraine's Minister of Defense, stated this on Facebook.
"Russia has several mobile operators, but there is one that the enemy uses most actively for terror in Ukraine," Beskrestnov noted.
This operator is Tele2 (t2), he specified.
According to him, "each Shahed is fitted with a Tele2 SIM card. These batches of SIM cards are specially ordered by the operator and supplied to Shahed manufacturers."
"In Ukraine, roaming for Tele2 SIM cards on Shaheds is blocked, but along the borders the drones receive roaming services, for example from Belarusian operators. The SIM cards can also work in roaming via Polish or Romanian operators when flying near those borders," Beskrestnov explained.
He added that it is possible that SIM cards from the same operator are also used to control unidentified drones appearing in various European countries.
"I believe that mobile and fixed-line operators across the civilized world should terminate business relations with an operator used by the Russian Federation for terrorist purposes. This concerns roaming agreements and international interconnection," Beskrestnov stated.
"Tele2 should become a purely domestic Russian operator," he emphasized.
As Ukrinform reported, according to Beskrestnov, Russian forces have begun using guided Shahed drones to target Ukrainian mobile fire groups while they are engaging aerial threats.
